In an ever-scrolling world, images compete for attention every second. How do we create visuals that make people stop, look, and connect?
This hands-on course explores photography and digital media as tools for communication, storytelling, and influence. Students will learn to use DSLR cameras, studio lighting, and professional-level editing software to create images that are not only beautiful but purposeful.
Throughout the course, students will:
Master technical skills: Learn the essentials of camera settings, composition, lighting, and post-production editing.
Analyze visual impact: Study why certain images stand out, and evaluate how visuals communicate meaning across different audiences and contexts.
Explore social media dynamics: “Pop the hood” on major platforms to understand how algorithms, feeds, and trends shape what people see—and what they don’t.
Practice intentional creation: Develop strategies for crafting images that serve a specific purpose, whether that’s telling a personal story, promoting an idea, or catching attention in a crowded feed.
No prior experience is needed. Students can bring their own camera or borrow one from LightHouse. This class blends creativity and technical expertise, helping students build the skills to communicate powerfully through visual media—and to navigate the fast-changing world where those images live.
